Leeds 55 John Carroll 24: Greenwave Earns Hard-fought Win Over John Carrol in Home Opener

Leeds, AL- Heading into this week’s matchup, Greenwave Head Coach, Lee Gibson saw an opportunity for his team to improve after suffering a loss to Sylacauga in the season opener.

Despite the weather on Friday night fans, packed Homer Smiles field to cheer on their Greenwave as they took on John Carroll High School, an opponent Leeds has not played since 1997.

In the opening drive, John Carroll’s Aaron Mason runs to the Cavaliers 43 for 9 yards. Then Fumbles the ball which is recovered by Leeds’ Alphoncie Hopson that results in a touchdown.

Leeds’ Jacobi Hunter rushed for over 240 yards that included 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Nick Armstrong threw for over 130 yards which resulted in 3 touchdowns for the Greenwave.

Leeds Head Coach Lee Gibson says he is very proud of how his team overcame the tough weather and adverse situations on Friday night. “Our young offensive line came together and took over the line of scrimmage and help Jakobi have a great night.”, said Lee Gibson. He says he is also proud of the adjustment his defense made at halftime.

Leeds (1–1) will travel to Elmore Country for a region showdown at 7:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7. The Greenwave next home game is Sept. 14 against the Lincoln Golden Bears.
